What If We Don't Know?

For days, Martha struggled with not knowing why it happened.

Have you ever done that? Maybe you’ve physically hurt yourself but don’t know why. Maybe one of your closest friends suddenly seems distant and you can’t understand what happened.

We want to know. We want an answer.

We want to figure it out so we can make sure it never happens again.

Martha had been dealing with severe pain in her lower back and right hip. At first, she thought it was her sciatic nerve. After spending time in emergency, she learned that compressed discs in her spine might be contributing to the pain.

She was in a lot of pain and kept thinking about how it happened.

When I asked her what she was learning from all that thinking, she said she was trying to figure out how it happened so she could undo it.

What a learning that was for me.

When I heard those words, I knew I was being shown something.

I became aware of the thoughts I had been having about her situation. I thought about how much pain Martha was in, and I found myself thinking about how I could prevent something like that from happening to me.

Can you imagine?

Thank goodness for awareness is all I have to say!

Because underneath my desire to prevent it was fear. And I knew that fear was something I needed to look at and work with inside myself.

Going back to Martha…she had been talking with her trainer, who reminded her that we won’t always know why pain surfaces. She encouraged Martha to become as neutral as possible toward the pain as she moved through it, rather than adding fear or resistance to what she was already experiencing.

Now, I’m sure that might sound a little strange to some of us.

But what if there’s something in that?

Martha happened to talk with me after her training session. I had been working with the energetic blocks I was picking up around her situation and shared the insight that was coming through.

When we’re growing up, we can experience situations that create mental and emotional unrest inside us. Our bodies can respond to what we’re experiencing in many different ways.

Maybe we’re constantly being cut down and our posture changes.

Maybe we’re living in an environment where we don’t feel supported, and over time our body begins to hold itself differently.

At the time, we’re not necessarily asking, “Why did this happen?” And we’re certainly not looking for ways to undo it.

We’re just living. We’re adapting. We’re moving through whatever we’re experiencing at the time.

Then, as adults, we may find ourselves moving through a healing process connected to some of that unrest.

And as things shift within us, we may notice changes in our physical body, our thoughts, our emotions and the way we experience ourselves.

But what if we don’t know why?

What if we never find the answer?

For me, this is where the work I do becomes so important.

Clearing energetic blocks isn’t about figuring out why something happened.

It’s about working with what is surfacing now.

It’s about becoming aware of the thoughts, emotions, sensations and energetic influences that may be present now…and supporting ourselves as we move through them.

The energetic work I do looks at the relationship between what we’re experiencing physically and the thoughts, emotions and energetic influences surrounding it.

I work with what I’m picking up in the energy field to help create space for greater awareness, clarity and movement in all our bodies.

And we don’t necessarily have to know where it all started. We don’t have to uncover every detail. We don’t even have to solve the mystery before we can begin working with what’s showing up.

That’s the part I love.

Because our mind wants answers. Our mind wants to understand the problem, figure out what caused it and find a way to make sure it never happens again.

But maybe healing doesn’t always require us to know why.

Maybe sometimes the question isn’t…“Why did this happen?”

Maybe the question is…“What’s this showing us now?”

Sometimes, we just need to become aware of what’s here and begin from there.

Wherever you are on your journey, may you find what works for you…find your own truth…and you’ll always be guided to feel at peace inside.
