Two Areas of Change Worth Noticing

In today’s world, change is constant. It’s happening all around us and within us every moment of every day.
Inside, our thoughts, feelings, and physical body are always shifting. Outside, people, things and the situations we find ourselves in are also in motion. Some changes we notice; others happen beneath our awareness. Trying to keep track of them all would be impossible because everything is continually evolving.
When it comes to living our everyday life, there are two key areas of change worth noticing:
1. Changing from happy to horrible
We can shift from feeling happy to feeling horrible in an instant, often when we’re reacting. Reactions take many forms and are rooted in the unrest within us.
Something happens outside of us and suddenly we react. In that moment, what’s driving our reactions isn’t only the situation itself…it’s the state of our inner world.
Imagine having an argument with someone close to you and feeling upset for the rest of the day. On the surface, you’re upset because that person didn’t do something you asked them to do. Underneath that upset there is deeper unrest, perhaps frustration about something you’ve been avoiding or not following through for yourself. That inner agitation easily spills over when others don’t meet your expectations.
Energetically, there’s a difference between our immediate upset and the deeper unrest within. Our reaction is triggered by what’s happening outside of us and the healing begins by turning our attention inwardly towards our own thoughts and feelings. That’s where the true work of resolution takes place.
2. Changing from horrible to happy
The shift from horrible to happy happens when we heal and resolve the unrest within. These internal changes are subtle yet powerful and they deeply influence our relationships and quality of life.
Returning to the example with someone close to you…the upset we feel is within us and it’s also within us where healing and resolution occur. Once that healing happens, we no longer react in the same way. Instead, we respond differently the next time a similar situation arises.
“Change happens inside before it’s visible outside of us.”
This isn’t an article about how to heal and resolve yur unrest…the world is already full of how-to’s. This is about growing in awareness. Every experience in life offers an opportunity to learn and evolve. Growth comes from becoming more aware of what’s happening inside us in relation to what’s happening around us.
When we begin to notice both our emotional upsets and our moments of inner healing, we give ourselves one of life’s greatest gifts…the ability to relate more deeply with ourselves and create stronger, more meaningful relationships from the inside out.
