When the Body Gets Our Attention

When we're dealing with physical pain or ongoing health challenges, it's natural to focus on the body. We search for answers, treatments and ways to feel better.
But sometimes, while caring for the body, we forget to become curious about what else may have been asking for our attention.
I was blessed to work with someone who had been unable to hear out of their left ear for more than 20 years.
As we talked, I asked what had been happening in their life when they first noticed the hearing loss.
At first, they couldn't remember. As they reflected and I worked with what I was sensing in their energy field, something unexpected surfaced.
They suddenly realized that whenever someone they loved came to them with stress or problems, they would often say, "I don't want to hear it," and shut the conversation down.
Then they stopped.
They looked at me and said, "I wonder how long I've been doing that."
That moment wasn't about hearing loss.
It was about awareness.
As we continued working together, they became more centered within themselves. I remember telling them that awareness is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. Once we become aware of something, we have the opportunity to choose differently.
It made me wonder...
How many of us are carrying something inside that we've long forgotten?
Think about your own life.
Are you living with ongoing physical symptoms? Have you spent months…or even years…trying to understand what's happening in your body?
If so, can you remember what was happening in your life when those symptoms first appeared? What were you struggling with? What thoughts or feelings were present?
Looking back isn't about living in the past. It's about becoming aware of what may have been happening within us when our body first began getting our attention.
In my experience, what we're carrying inside has a way of revealing itself. Sometimes through our thoughts. Sometimes through our emotions. Sometimes through our relationships. And sometimes...through the body itself.
That doesn't mean every illness has an emotional cause. It does mean our inner world and our physical body are deeply connected.
When we're in pain, our attention naturally goes to fixing the body. And that's important. We need to care for our health and seek the support we need.
But alongside that, we can also become curious.
What else was happening within me?
Is there an inner unrest that's still asking for my attention?
Do we need to remember every detail of what happened? In my experience, no.
What matters is becoming willing to feel whatever still remains unresolved within us.
That's where healing begins.
As that inner unrest begins to soften, our thoughts change. Our feelings begin to shift. And often times our body responds differently as well.
Whether that's your experience or not, awareness is never wasted. It helps us understand ourselves more deeply, make different choices and move through life with greater peace.
Wherever you are on your journey, may you find what works for you…find your own truth…and you’ll always be guided to feel at peace inside.
