Meditation...We're Not Yogis!

If you think we’re supposed to be in total silence when we meditate…think again.
It’s very normal to get lost in all kinds of thoughts during meditation. There’ll be unexplainable negative thoughts preventing us from being silent inside.
It’s important to know those negative thoughts are not coming from our spirit. It’s our ego mind that’s troubling us. Why?
Whenever we want to do things like progress spiritually, lift ourselves up or develop divine qualities within, negative type thoughts surface causing us to feel unrest inside.
The mind is tricking us to believe we aren’t meditating.
To move past this, we can observe our thoughts and see them as small children creating big problems. If we’re caught up in those problems, it indicates we have an attachment of some kind leading us to find it hard to sit still in our own energy.
This creates confusion within us and blocks the results we want. This is normal and gaining awareness of the process we go through makes all the difference between continuing and discontinuing a practice that truly makes a positive difference when it comes to feeling more at peace inside.
We’re not yogis! We’re everyday life human beings subject to both positive and negative things in our lives.
When I first started meditating and that was over 20 years ago, I’d set my timer for 10 minutes and try to sit still till my timer went off. It wasn’t always easy…but I pushed through.
I discovered when meditating we can get caught up in two kinds of thoughts:
1. Thoughts related to things we think are more important than meditating. These will be the things that the mind wants us to believe are way more important than wasting our time meditating. Recognize these thoughts are like distractions taking us away from the present moment. Move past them and maintain the meditation till the timer goes off.
2. Thoughts that upset us causing us to feel restless where we can’t sit in our own energy. These are related to everyday life problems we struggle with or are causing conflict in our lives. When we heal and resolve these inside, the struggle and conflict related to our problems will be gone.)
There is no perfect meditation! We’re going to experience negative type thoughts related to the trouble and struggle within.
Trust if our intention for meditating is to gain more clarity and grace within, the divine grace will be there. It’ll be the ego mind that wants us to think nothing is changing or that meditation doesn’t work. That is not true and is an illusion.
When we get lost in those thoughts and find it hard to sit still, we can easily open our eyes for a moment, focus on a picture of our Divine and then close our eyes again to keep meditating.
Don’t give up. Meditation is as amazing as they say it is. One of the many benefits is it helps us calm our central nervous system which helps us to feel more at peace inside.
