Right in Front of Us

Beautiful diamonds
Beautiful diamonds

We were walking around the neighborhood when I saw a huge round pinkish rock about the size of a basketball. I told my husband Jimmy, I really liked it and thought to myself that one day I’d like to see if the owner of the house would let me have it.

A day or two later, we were working on our landscaping and from our corner bushes Jimmy held up a huge rock and said it looked like the one I wanted from the neighbor’s place. I couldn’t believe it. Here in front of me was the same kind of rock I was admiring in the neighborhood.

This experience reminded me of the story I heard years and years ago titled Acres of Diamonds. There’re many narrated and written versions on the internet if you’re interested in checking them out. For now…here’s my quick version. Enjoy.

Acres of Diamonds

There once was a farmer who owned acres of land. One day a priest made a visit to the farmer and talked about the beauty and value of diamonds. This man became so obsessed with the thought of owning his own diamond mine that he sold his farm and set out into the world to find one.

The person who purchased his farm was out walking along the garden brook and uncovered an interesting stone. Thinking it was beautiful, he polished it up and set it on the mantel over the fire.

The same priest came to visit the new owner and saw the polished stone on the mantel. He immediately recognized the stone as a diamond and asked where they got it from. The owner took him out to the garden brook to see if there were any more stones like that. They found many diamonds and discovered the farm had been set on one of the largest diamond mines at the time.

The moral of the story was that the farmer left the farm in search for something that was right there in front of him all along.

How many times in our lives do we search outside of ourselves for something we have inside? This concept applies to both physical and non-physical things.

That beautiful rock surfaced in our yard at a time when I needed to be reminded of the touching story that impacted my life years ago.

Wherever you are on your journey, may you find what works for you…find your own truth…and you will always be guided to feel at peace inside.
